Project Lead the Way (PLTW) describes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) as an opportunity for students to dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3-D modeling software and use an engineering notebook to document their work. Students will also have the opportunity to expand their critical thinking skills through problems that engage and challenge. Students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem-solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation.
At AMMS, we strive to offer each student the opportunity to expand their knowledge using this new and innovative program. We offer PLTW Launch to our 6th graders, which prepares them for PLTW Gateway that will be offered to them in the 7th and 8th grades. Throughout their three years at AMMS, our students will become stronger leaders and learners as they transition into young adulthood. Our hope is that we expose our children as much as we can, to prepare them for the bright futures ahead of them.
